This week we see encouraging progress towards coherent, integrated and working strategies across five continents between government and business, the David and Goliath nations and the conventional with the digital force structures. Here’s a sampling.
“As government-backed hackers in Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea continue to infiltrate and attack American companies, it’s often private cybersecurity firms, rather than the US government, that are publicly assigning blame. By stepping aside to let private firms expose nation-state hackers, the US government preserves its intelligence capabilities and options to retaliate. It’s an informal arrangement that has been good for business and government and bad for state-sponsored hackers.”
“The Office of Management and Budget is launching a cyber reskilling academy to identify the next generation of IT talent from those already working in the ranks of the federal government. “
“BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota Army National Guard has scheduled a send-off ceremony Sunday in Bismarck for members of the 174th Cyber Protection Team.
Five soldiers are mobilizing for a yearlong stateside mission at Fort Meade in Maryland. They’ll be helping the Defense Department with network security and cyber defense operations.”
“Federal agencies are reportedly feeding data into a special algorithm introduced by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in order to assess their cyber posture scores. This Agency-Wide Adaptive Risk Enumeration (AWARE) algorithm should go into full production by fiscal year 2020, news outlet GCN reported yesterday, citing a public presentation yesterday by DHS Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation Program Manager Kevin Cox.”

“NATO’s flagship cyber defence exercise Cyber Coalition, one of the largest in the world, started on Tuesday (27 November 2018) in Tartu, Estonia. The exercise tests and trains cyber defenders from across the Alliance in their ability to defend NATO and national networks. Now in its eleventh year, Cyber Coalition involves around 700 participants from Allies, partners, industry and academia.”
